Experience
Dr Chelvi Ganesalingam is a Clinical Neuropsychologist with over 20 years of experience working with children and families across the public and private health settings. She is the founder and Director of The Child’s Mind, a specialist neurodevelopmental assessment service that supports children and their families navigate complex neurodevelopmental challenges.
As a clinician and academic/educator, Chelvi is committed to supporting children and families with neurodevelopmental conditions including ADHD, autism, learning difficulties, intellectual differences ranging from giftedness to disability, and mental health concerns. Her approach is holistic, evidence-based, and child and family centred.
Hospital and professional leadership
Chelvi has dedicated much of her career to the Child Development Unit at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where she works as part of a multidisciplinary team engaged in diagnostic assessments of neurodevelopmental conditions. As a Fellow of the College of Clinical Neuropsychologists, Australian Psychological Association, Chelvi stands as a leader and advocate within the neuropsychological community.
Supervision and teaching
Her commitment to professional development is underscored by her role as an AHPRA-approved supervisor, mentoring the next generation of clinical neuropsychologists and guiding both students and registrars in developing critical clinical skills.
Chelvi is also a conjoint lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of New South Wales, where she teaches in both the Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology postgraduate programs. She plays an active role in developing clinical training pathways and mentoring future psychologists.
Advocacy for children with ADHD
As a clinician and academic/educator, Chelvi is intimately acquainted with the academic and social challenges faced by children with ADHD, and the cascading impact on their self-concept and overall wellbeing. She advocates for children with ADHD based on each child’s unique cognitive profile of strengths while addressing their specific challenges, all the while empowering parents and caregivers and upskilling educators to facilitate positive experiences and outcomes.
Chelvi’s vision is clear: to champion individuals with ADHD by enhancing science-based clinical awareness of ADHD in Australia, embracing a neurodivergence framework that celebrates and supports diverse neurological profiles.
